Where: Desert Palm Hospital
Aiden Burn sat in the waiting room of the Out-Patient Surgery ward in a chair that hadn't been comfortable from the moment she had sat in it. And that had been four hours ago. She sighed, uncrossing and recrossing her legs. The heel of the foot on the floor tapped impatiently. She had been scheduled to go into surgery an hour ago. She generally wasn't too much of an impatient woman, at least she didn't think so, but this was pushing her limits. She could accept that emergencies happened, she could, but what she had a hard time of accepting was having to arrive three hours early to fill out paperwork that took five minutes and to get a hospital bracelet slapped on her wrist. Whooped de fricken do.
Aiden sighed again. She already had finished her novel. There was nothing on the television. The only thing keeping her mildly entertained was the cops that had shown up. They were investigating something, asking questions. She wondered about what and whom.
Where: The Dominion
What: Staff Meeting/Session/?
Aiden sat at the dining room table, not listening to a thing the chattering people around her were saying. She was thinking about other things. Like a pair of long legs in black stiletto boots, eyes you could get lost in, and pillow talk in the darkness. She was happy. Deliriously so. She was even looking forward to her session with Lady Heather this afternoon. She no longer feared what could be done to her. She knew she had a safe place to fall and that fact really did make all the difference in the world. She was eager to learn, to please, to live.
“Aiden!” The girl sitting next to her yelled, making her jump. “Are you listening? What are you thinking about?” Aiden apologized for her wandering mind but refused to elaborate on the subject. Though it was pretty clear that something was up with their co-worker, even if no one knew exactly what it was.
“What were you talking about?”
“The Bucket list. I asked you what was on yours.” Aiden opened her mouth to say something but never got a chance to finish as the chatter in the room died suddenly, indicating the boss had arrived. Everyone turned their attention on Lady Heather and Aiden straightened the papers in front of her once more, just for good measure
Where: Outside The Dominion
It wasn't that late. Just late enough in the day to be dark outside. She was making her rounds outside the house to see if, and relight, any candles that had been blown out. It was routine work, but that was why Aiden enjoyed doing it. Simple and understood. No room for ambiguity or self doubt. If only the rest of life were that simple she wouldn't have ending up making the majority of her life's mistake.
But that could probably be said of everyone.
There was far less bitterness and self loathing in the inner workings of Aiden's mind now then there had been even a week ago. Though love had a way of doing that too a person. Turning what seemed like an ending point into a starting point. And surprise surprise there was a lot of life left to be lived.
Still Aiden liked the simpleness of life's daily routines. Now she could reflect on the good things which suddenly seemed like a lot. Now when she received a catalogin the mail she was no longer depressed about the things out of her price range but excited about seeing what was new to buy someday. And when her ears picked up tires crunching on the gravel driveway she turned her head, not in potential fear, but in curiosity. Yes Aiden Burn was a changed woman these days.
Where: The Dominion, Heather's rooms
When: Current after "Tell me that we belong together"
Heather woke first the following day, the sunlight had started coming through the chinks in the curtain. She lay there in Aiden's arms for several minutes before gently extracting herself and heading to the bathroom. She needed to take her insulin and eat something. Aiden had brought her breakfast in bed, maybe it was time for her to do the same.

Where: Privately owned bookstore off the strip
When: A Saturday afternoon
Warrick Brown decided to spend a Saturday night off from work a little different than he had in the past. No clubs. No casinos. No crowds in any form. He was going to spend a quiet night in alone. Maybe write music and read. He just wanted a different night than he usually spent.
So he decided to hit a secluded bookstore off the strip rather than Barnes and Nobles or Books A Million. Besides, he was looking for some rare books from the Harlem Renaissance era and this quaint spot carried rare finds. The only downfall to the establishment was the cost for some of their specialty items and how narrow the aisles were. He often found himself getting nudged or needing to squeeze by someone.
This was one instance where he didn't mind. There was an alarmingly beautiful women in the aisle he need to go down. He couldn't help but think that he knew her from somewhere yet all the same, he was sure they hadn't been acquainted. He did his best to focus on the shelves and not stare at her. What was he going to say? "Excuse me, but do I know you from somewhere ?" He'd rather let the moment pass him than say something so corny. He decided to gaze at the area she seemed interested in and search for possible items for small talk. As if that's not cliché.
To his surprise, some of the books he had been interested in were in the same section after all. Now he became nervous that he would look too contrived regardless. A voice inside started chiding him. What happened to a quiet time of solitude? First chance you get, you're trying to pick up a woman. But the bottom line was, he hadn't seen anyone like her. The way she carried herself in addition to her looks -Warrick couldn't wait to engage her in conversation. If he had nerve enough to attempt it.
He pulled a book from the shelf and remained in close proximity, finally speaking up.
"You haven't come across Rhetoric to Alexander, have you?" he asked quietly, glancing up from the shelves to her face.
